Know about lung cancer and treatment

Lung cancer is one among the most widespread types of cancers in the world. It is one of the leading causes of causalities and hence the most dreaded disease. The reason for causalities in lung cancer is because of the difficulty to diagnose it in the early stages and by the time it is identified, it will be too late. Lung cancer affects people from all age groups, but mostly the elderly. 70% of lung cancer cases are of people aged above 65 years. Smoking is the major cause of lung cancer along with prolonged exposure to asbestos fibres, air pollution and exposure to radon gas.
Based on the size and appearance, Oncologists classify lung cancer into two categories –

Small Cell Lung Cancers (SCLC) –
It is a lethal cancer as it grows and spreads aggressively to other body parts even before being detected. Smoking is the main cause for this cancer.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancers (NSCLC) –
NSCLC is a very prominent lung cancer, with 80 percent of global cases. The sub categories of NSCLC include Adenocarcinomas, Squamous cell carcinomas, Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and large cell carcinomas.
