The U.S.
Centres for Disease Control and Prevention once funded a
research study which showed that despite of several improvements regarding
cancer treatment and cancer care, this disease kills black people in a
disproportionate manner. Although the overall death rate due to cancer
including breast cancer, ovarian cancer and also colon cancer were seen to have
declined over the years since 1999 in the United States. The symptoms or the
signs that indicate the presence of cancer in the body are always present, and
the patient will have better chances of survival if they are recognised early
and treatment is started at an early stage.
Approximately
80 percent of the U.S. population contributed data for one of the largest study
on cancer treatment and survival in certain populations in the States. One of
the main studies was concerned with the number of survival cases of black
people within 5 years of diagnosis of the disease against the number of
survival cases of white people within 5 years of diagnosis. After comparing the
data and tallying it, the researchers found that white people had 10 percent
more survival rates than black people when they were diagnosed with colon,
ovarian or breast cancer in those 5 years of research.
The CDC
also stated that these three types of cancer are among listed among the top 10
causes of deaths regarding cancer, while
breast cancer is on the second place and colon cancer on the third regarding both
males and females. Data collected just one year after the diagnosis also showed
an unequal survival rate regarding black and white people. The same result was
actually found even after the total span of research which was 9 years. These
differences can be removed by providing equal care to all and also by giving
them complete and timely treatment after being diagnosed.
