Ways to steer clear of infections resulting from chemotherapy

Ways to steer clear of infections resulting from chemotherapy

The most effective method of treating cancer is of course chemotherapy. We know that through chemotherapy all the cancerous cells get destroyed. However what a lot of people do not know is that chemotherapy also affects the good cells of your body. It particularly compromises the immune system by weakening the healthy cells and hence in turn your body runs at a high risk of catching some kind of infection or the other.

It is more than necessary to keep all infections at bay during this period. Here are some ways with the help of which you can keep a check on the possibility of infections:
  1. It is very important to go back to the basics of personal hygiene. Keep yourself clean at all times and wash your hands as much as possible with a soft soap which does not make your hands and palms rough. It is important to wash your hands quite often because we tend to catch the most germs through them and hence the point is to keep these infections away.
  2. See to it that proper care goes into making the food that you are eating. Avoid anything raw. Always boil them a little before having anything if you want to kill the germs.
  3. It is also very important to check what you are eating. A good and balanced diet will give you the much needed strength for a weakened immune system.
  4. Avoid dry skin. Always keep your skin hydrated and moisturized as much as possible to avoid any infection that might seep in through the skin.
  5. Even if a loved one has fallen ill and you want to see them, it is best to stay away for the time being. Steer clear of contagious diseases as much as possible.
These are some of the time tested ways through which you can keep almost all infections at bay that might occur due to chemotherapy.
